The National Solution and Research Centre (NSRC) conducted a Teacher Training Session on Suicide Prevention and Mental Wellbeing at श्री गौतम बुद्ध आधारभूत विद्यालय, कपिलवस्तु. The session brought teachers together to strengthen their understanding of students’ emotional and psychological needs and to reflect on how they can become more responsive and supportive figures in their students’ lives.

The training focused on practical ways to understand what students may be experiencing beneath their everyday behavior. Teachers were introduced to the importance of recognizing warning signs of emotional distress and responding appropriately when a student may be struggling. The session emphasized that sometimes a change in behavior, mood, or interaction can be a quiet signal that a student needs someone to notice, listen, and care.

A key part of the training was learning to respond with empathy, sensitivity, and compassion. Teachers were encouraged to create spaces where students feel comfortable expressing their concerns and emotions without fear of judgment. When students know that there is an adult who will listen to them with patience and understanding, reaching out for support can become easier.

The session also highlighted the important role teachers play in promoting mental wellbeing within schools. Their daily interactions with students give them opportunities to notice changes, offer reassurance, encourage healthy communication, and help students feel valued and supported. Strengthening teachers’ capacity to respond to emotional and psychological concerns is therefore an important step toward creating healthier, safer, and more responsive school communities.

NSRC sincerely appreciates श्री गौतम बुद्ध आधारभूत विद्यालय, कपिलवस्तु for the warm welcome, active participation, and valuable commitment to prioritizing the mental wellbeing of its students. We are grateful to the teachers for their openness and willingness to learn, and for taking an important step toward building a school environment where every student feels heard, valued, supported, and safe to seek help when they need it.
