With them, but not with them: Chautari (Chapter 20)

May 8, 2026

This simple yet deeply emotional phrase became the heart of our latest Chautari session — a
space where we explored the silent emotional distance that can exist even within our closest
relationships, especially with our parents.

Under the special chapter “Know Your Parents”, held on 25th Baishak (Friday), participants
came together to reflect on the realities of parent-child relationships in today’s world. While we
may live under the same roof, share meals, or spend time together physically, emotional
disconnection often quietly grows beneath the surface. Many young people carry unspoken
emotions, misunderstandings, expectations, and unanswered feelings that remain unheard within
families.

In a world heavily influenced by reel life and social media perfection, we often forget that real
relationships are built not through appearances, but through genuine understanding,
communication, vulnerability, and emotional presence. Reel life may appear flawless for a
moment, but real life — with its imperfections, emotions, struggles, and honest conversations —
is what truly shapes us and our connections.

This session created a safe and compassionate environment where participants openly shared
personal experiences, reflected on their relationships with their parents, and explored the
emotional gaps that often go unnoticed in everyday life. Through meaningful conversations and
active listening, we encouraged individuals to look beyond surface-level interactions and
reconnect with the emotions, sacrifices, love, and silent struggles that exist within families.
Together, we focused on Building awareness about emotional distance within families, Reflecting on real emotions and unspoken experiences, Strengthening understanding and empathy between parents and children, Encouraging healthy communication and emotional connection.

The evening was filled with honesty, vulnerability, empathy, and reflection — reminding us that
healing and connection begin when people feel safe enough to truly speak and truly listen.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and trusted this space with their stories, emotions, and
voices. Your openness made this session meaningful and impactful. Together, we continue to
create spaces where conversations are not judged, emotions are not ignored, and hearts are
allowed to speak freely.
