Mental Health behind the Screen- Chautari (Chapter-19)

April 24, 2026

We organized Chautari under theme: Mental Health behind the Screen, on 11th Baishak (Friday), this session invited participants to pause, reflect, and explore
the growing influence of digital life on our emotions, identity, and mental wellbeing.
“Reel life is a beautiful illusion that fades with time, but real life is the truth that shapes who we
are. One entertains the eyes, the other transforms the soul.”

In today’s world, social media often presents carefully curated moments that appear perfect,
successful, and effortless. While these digital spaces can inspire and entertain, they can also
create unrealistic standards, emotional pressure, self-doubt, and a constant need for validation.
Behind filters, edits, and perfectly timed posts, many people silently struggle with comparison,
loneliness, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion.

Through this Chautari session, we created a safe and reflective environment where participants
openly discussed the emotional impact of living in a screen-centered culture. Together, we
explored the difference between digital illusions and real-life experiences, helping individuals
recognize how excessive screen exposure and online perfection can shape self-image,
confidence, relationships, and mental health.

The session focused on understanding the gap between digital “illusions” and reality, helping
participants recognize how online platforms often present curated and filtered versions of life

that may not reflect real experiences. It also aimed at promoting awareness about the emotional
effects of screen time, encouraging individuals to reflect on how constant digital engagement can
influence self-esteem, mood, and mental wellbeing. Alongside this, the discussion encouraged
self-reflection and emotional honesty, creating space for participants to connect with their true
feelings beyond online identities and comparisons. It further emphasized valuing genuine human
connection over online validation, reminding everyone that real relationships are built through
presence, empathy, and understanding rather than digital approval. Ultimately, the session
highlighted the importance of embracing real-life experiences, imperfections, and authentic
emotions as the foundation for true personal growth and wellbeing.

Participants shared personal insights, experiences, and thoughts on how social media influences
the way we see ourselves and others. The conversations highlighted the importance of
disconnecting from unrealistic expectations and reconnecting with our authentic selves,
relationships, and emotional wellbeing.

At NSRC, we believe that self-reflection is the beginning of clarity, healing, and growth. We are
deeply grateful to every participant who contributed to this meaningful and vibrant dialogue.
Your openness, honesty, and willingness to reflect made this session truly impactful.
Together, we continue building spaces where voices are heard, emotions are acknowledged, and
mental health remains a priority.
