June 13, 2025

The awareness session organized by National Solution and Research Centre in collaboration with the District Police Office, Kathmandu on Jestha 30, 2082, focused on promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention among police personnel. Held at the District Police Range office, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, the session brought together 66 officers and addressed the emotional challenges faced in high-pressure policing environments.

Through interactive presentations, the session emphasized early identification of distress, peer support, and the importance of gatekeeper training. Insightful remarks from SP Apil Bohora and DSP Sundar Tiwari reinforced the need to prioritize mental fitness alongside physical readiness.

The officers’ feedback was notably positive, with many acknowledging the value of open conversations on mental health. DSP Sundar Tiwari emphasized that cases such as domestic violence may not only constitute legal offenses but also reflect underlying mental health issues. He highlighted the importance of approaching such cases through a psychological lens to gain a comprehensive understanding before proceeding with registration and intervention.

The involvement of NSRC's psychosocial professionals underscored the growing collaboration between mental health advocates and law enforcement, setting a powerful example for future institutional efforts in building emotional resilience within security forces.
